The family of a 29-year-old miner, who tragically passed away, reportedly assaulted the personnel of the Suhum Government Hospital. They accused the hospital staff of negligence, believing that the miner’s death could have been prevented if proper care had been provided.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, taking place in the emergency ward of the hospital. It was on this fateful day that the 29-year-old individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, sadly passed away. The circumstances leading to their untimely death are still under investigation, as medical staff and authorities work to piece together the events that led to this unfortunate outcome. The news has deeply affected the community, and many are mourning the loss of such a young life.

He was urgently transported to the medical facility after he became involved in a serious traffic accident in Suhum. This unfortunate incident occurred while he was on his way back from Accra, traveling towards Anyinam.

The family, however, accused the medical staff of gross negligence due to their failure to promptly transfer him to the Eastern Regional Hospital for additional and more specialized treatment. They believed that this delay in transferring him to the appropriate healthcare facility significantly compromised his chances of receiving the necessary medical intervention in a timely manner.

They reportedly called other family members and friends who came to the hospital to attack the health workers.

It took the intervention of the Suhum police to calm the situation.

Speaking to journalists, a member of the family said the deceased seemed very well and interactive when they first rushed him to the hospital.

He said a nurse who attended to him informed them that all the bones in his thigh were broken and referred them to someone in Kumasi who could help.

However, he said the situation escalated suddenly after they returned him to the emergency ward.

“The person I went with called me that they had put oxygen on him because he could barely breathe. They told me they would refer him, so they called the ambulance. His father and brother came, and I went to the police station with his brother. We were at the police station when we had a call that he had passed on,” he said.

A security guard at the hospital also told the media that the angry family and friends did not spare any member of staff during the rampage.

“I witnessed a pick-up truck arrive, and two men stepped out. One of them began speaking to the journalist present, while the other individual made his way into the hospital. The family also entered the hospital, where they initiated an attack on the nurses and simultaneously started breaking various items and causing significant property damage,” he recounted.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated thorough investigations into the recent attack. They are diligently working to gather all available evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the sequence of events that led to this incident. The authorities are committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice and are utilizing all resources at their disposal to conduct a comprehensive and meticulous inquiry.
